FAQ / Questions & Answers

We are a Turkish company. Do we need a carbon footprint report for EU exports?

Answer: Yes. CBAM will require mandatory carbon reporting from 2026 for products like cement, iron, steel, aluminum, gas, and electrical energy.

Who accepts OurOffset certifications?

Answer: Our transparent and audited system is generally accepted by EU companies, investors, and authorities.

Can we work with a local company?

Answer: Yes, data collection and measurements can be done by local partners, while we handle verification and ESG documentation.

In what language is the report?

Answer: Default is English, but multilingual versions are available upon request (e.g., Turkish, German, French).

Who does the new 2026 regulation apply to, regarding manufacturers and logistics?

Answer: CBAM and CSRD apply to all companies exporting energy-intensive products to the EU. Manufacturers must prepare carbon footprint and ESG reports. Logistics partners must ensure supply chain transparency.

Will there be exceptions? Can voluntary or mandatory credits be purchased if needed?

Answer: Currently, some SMEs and non-regular exporters may receive temporary exemptions. Voluntary credits (e.g., BCS™, QFCS™) may be accepted as compensation.

Can these new obligations be quantified already?

Answer: Yes. Based on the CBAM pilot phase, product-specific CO₂e unit prices and quota calculations are available. CSRD and ESRS frameworks also specify concrete metrics from 2026.

What is a CN code?

Answer: The CN code (Combined Nomenclature) is an 8-digit classification system used by the European Union for customs tariffs, trade statistics, and regulations like CBAM or ESG and carbon footprint requirements.

The CN code is the EU’s customs and trade classification system. It’s based on the HS code (Harmonized System) but extended with additional digits for EU-specific classification.

Example:

HS code: 7306 (iron pipes)

CN code: 73063041 (specific iron or steel pipe – with more detailed description)

What is the CN code used for?

  • Customs processing – determines exact tariff rates and classification
  • Trade statistics – Eurostat records EU trade based on CN codes
  • Regulatory compliance – e.g., CBAM applies only to specific CN codes
  • Carbon footprint and ESG certification – identifies if products are energy-intensive

Where can I find a product’s CN code?

The official EU database is available here:
TARIC / EU CN code search or https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds2/taric

CN codes are often found on customs declarations, export/import documents, or can be requested from customs agents.

CN code and ESG/carbon certification?

The CN code determines:

  • Products covered by CBAM (e.g., iron, steel, cement, aluminum, etc.)
  • Estimated emission factors for average CO₂e values
  • Products declared as energy-intensive by the EU (requiring special ESG reporting)
